Cold Light Mirrors

The words "Cold mirrors" indicate a series of coatings characterised by a nearly complete transmission of the thermal component of the radiation (infrared radiation):

The visible spectrum is reflected to match the specifications requested by the customer and acts as a mirror in the visible portion of the radiation.

The data sheets , unloadable here, put in evidence that the average reflectivity of the visible radiation of an aluminium reflector is around 85% that is around 10% less than that of a cold mirror coated by ODL with a dielectric film.

On the other hand, it has to be noted that the IR radiation is totally reflected by the aluminium reflector conveying heat in the front of the lamp and this is generally perceived as a drawback.

By using an ODL dielectric cold light mirror coating on a gòlass reflector, instead, a value of more than 85% of the transmission of the heat rear of the reflector is easily possible between 900nm and 2000 nm.
